During my research, I discovered an extremely unique tradition in society. Every year on the exact same day, hundreds of small creatures fill the streets just as the sun sets. They flood out their houses dressed in a variety of attire. Some are much scarier than others, with goblin-like faces or pointed horns. Others are dressed more elegantly in sparkly dresses and shiny crowns. Regardless of their clothing choice, the creatures tend to move in groups, marching down the street with strong determination. They are attracted to light, which makes every home with porch lights on a huge target. The creatures approach the doorway of these lit up homes and aggressively bang on the door. If someone inside is brave enough to open the door, they are greeted with screeching yells of “taert-ro-kcirt” – which I assume to be the creature war cry. Obviously startled, the innocent target is forced to hand over their valuable possessions, dumping them directly into the unique bags the creatures carry with them. The target makes sure to split the possessions evenly among each creature in order to decrease conflict within the group. Some people who are aware of this annual tradition (and don’t want to come in direct contact with the creatures on this night) will even leave their possessions in plain sight on the porch for them to take! After repeating this process for several hours and visiting several homes, they are eventually satisfied with the goods they’ve collected. The creatures drag their heavy bag of valuables back to their own homes, where they retreat inside and sort the newly obtained possessions. They won’t be seen again for another 365 days. You can guarantee on the 304th day of each year, these creatures will always fill the streets, robbing the innocent public one house at a time.
